FOCUS AND SCOPE

HIKAMI: Journal of Qur’anic Studies and Tafsir is a scholarly journal published by the Department of Qur’anic Sciences and Tafsir. The journal serves as an academic platform for readers, researchers, scholars, and practitioners who seek to explore, understand, develop, and implement studies related to the Qur’an and Tafsir from interdisciplinary and contemporary perspectives.

HIKAMI publishes original research articles, conceptual papers, and critical studies in the field of Qur’anic studies and Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir). The journal aims to contribute to the advancement of academic discourse by promoting rigorous, ethical, and innovative scholarship.

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  1. Nusantara Qur’anic Exegesis (Tafsir Al-Qur’an Nusantara)
    Studies on the development, methodology, characteristics, figures, manuscripts, and intellectual traditions of Qur’anic interpretation in the Indonesian and broader Southeast Asian context.
  2. Ad-Dakhil fi al-Tafsir (Extraneous Elements in Qur’anic Exegesis)
    Research concerning internal and external influences in tafsir, including critical analysis of weak narrations, Isra’iliyyat, ideological tendencies, and interpretive deviations.
  3. Qur’anic Sciences (‘Ulum al-Qur’an)
    Studies related to the sciences of the Qur’an, including revelation, compilation, qira’at, occasions of revelation (asbab al-nuzul), Makki–Madani studies, abrogation, and methodologies of Qur’anic interpretation.
  4. Living Qur’an Studies
    Research on the reception, practice, transmission, and social implementation of the Qur’an in everyday life across various cultural and societal contexts.
  5. Classical, Medieval, and Contemporary Qur’anic Studies
    Studies examining the development of Qur’anic thought and tafsir traditions across historical periods, including classical heritage, medieval scholarship, and contemporary interpretive approaches.

HIKAMI welcomes contributions from scholars and researchers worldwide and encourages interdisciplinary approaches that enrich the study of the Qur’an and Tafsir.
