PLAGIARISME POLICY

HIKAMI: Journal of Qur’anic Studies and Tafsir is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring that all published works meet ethical standards of originality and scholarly honesty.

All manuscripts submitted to HIKAMI are subject to plagiarism screening before entering the peer review process.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text, ideas, data, figures, or arguments from other sources without proper citation.
  • Presenting another person’s work as one’s own.
  • Improper paraphrasing without acknowledgment.
  • Self-plagiarism or redundant publication.
  • Republishing substantially similar work without disclosure.
  • Using translated content from another source without attribution.

Similarity Screening

All submitted manuscripts will undergo similarity checking using plagiarism detection software selected by the editorial team.

The journal applies the following standards:

  • Similarity Index below 20% ? Manuscript may proceed to editorial evaluation.
  • Similarity Index between 20–30% ? Authors may be asked to revise and reduce similarity.
  • Similarity Index above 30% ? Manuscript may be rejected before peer review.

Editorial assessment remains the final consideration, since similarity percentage alone does not automatically determine plagiarism.

Editorial Assessment

Editors will evaluate:

  • The nature and location of text overlap.
  • Proper use of quotations and citations.
  • Whether similarity appears in references, methodology, commonly used terms, or substantial content.

Author Responsibilities

Authors must ensure that:

  • The manuscript is original.
  • All quotations and references are appropriately acknowledged.
  • Permission is obtained when necessary.
  • The work has not been submitted or published elsewhere.

Actions for Plagiarism Cases

If plagiarism is identified, HIKAMI may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Request manuscript revision.
  • Reject the manuscript.
  • Withdraw acceptance decisions.
  • Retract published articles.
  • Notify affiliated institutions when necessary.

Post-Publication Policy

If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the editorial board reserves the right to publish corrections, retractions, or remove the article from publication records according to editorial and ethical procedures.

HIKAMI encourages authors to check originality before submission and uphold responsible scholarly practices in all stages of publication.
